I, for one, think it's a great idea. What would it mean if they went ahead and joined together pre-primaries? Ever been done before?
Anyway, these two were by far the most appealing candidates in tonight's CNN/YouTube debate. The commentators afterwards seemed to think so, albeit begrudgingly. Huckabee is great on domestic affairs and McCain is great on foreign affairs. Unstoppable.
As for the others, Romney wanted to consult everybody for everything, getting defensive when Anderson Cooper pushed for a response. He also seems very unnatural. He has two faces: one for "talking serious" and one for telling awkward jokes. Guiliani did okay, but certainly missed some points with conservative evangelical voters: he called Islam a wonderful religion, he wouldn't sign a federal ban on abortions, and he doesn't believe the Bible to be literally true (all fine and well, but what were Southern Christians thinking when he said he doesn't believe Jonah spent three days in the belly of a whale?). Also, I admit it's unfair because it's the entire realm of his experience, but I get tired of hearing about NYC. I wonder if that's the case with other voters. Thompson stumbled over himself the entire night. Ron Paul was himself, which is great and horrible at the same time. I can't remember the other guys' names, which tells you about their performance.
Hopefully their performances will give Huckabee and McCain more play on the major newsstations. I'm tired of seeing CNN polls when one or both of them isn't listed.
Any other people watch the debate tonight? Thoughts?
